Common fake tan mistakes

There are some fairly common mistakes which can cause fake tanning problems, which can make life awkward for yourself or your friends if they have used fake tan and not applied it as well as they possibly could.

The obvious impression of fake tan or spray tanning going wrong is of someone impersonating the bloke from the “You've been Tangoed" advert. Beneath the obvious glaring errors though there are subtle signs that indicate fake tanning has gone wrong. Normally this is because women do not take their time when they are applying tan to themselves. If not using the best form of light or if you are standing in a poorly lit room then you may miss particular areas of the body, leaving your natural skin tone exposed.

It is also best to use a mitt when spreading the spray tanning lotion across your body. It is also best to work from the feet upwards and to ensure that all of the body is covered. If not you could be left with white ears or a white line around your forehead where the skin meets the hair.

If you do not exfoliate correctly and thoroughly then you could become the victim of streaks appearing where the dead skin cells have come off. It is a common misconception that you should shave before tanning though, the best fake tanning results come when you shave after you have tanned, not before.

By following these simple tips you should be able to ensure that there are no problems when you fake tan. Remember that a lot of the time, applying fake tan is a matter of trial and error. It may take a couple of attempts before you achieve the look you want to pull off.
