Fake tan after-care tips

So you're all fake tanned and glowing but the hard work doesn't stop there. To maximise the potential of your fake tan you need to give it lots of care and attention after the tanning process is complete.

The idea of exfoliating following fake tan application might sound crazy but it is in fact essential to the life span of your fake tan. Gently exfoliating can help to even out your fake tan as it fades, leaving you with smooth, radiant skin. Although exfoliating is advised, make sure you use a gentle exfoliator - a harsh salt scrub will just rub your fake tan straight off and could leave you with sore, tender skin.

Following your fake tan you also need to make sure you moisturise, moisturise and moisturise! All types of fake tan can dry your skin out so it's important to keep your skin hydrated with lots of moisturise at all points in the tanning process. Don't have enough time to moisturise every day? There are lots of moisturisers which now promise to keep you hydrated for up to seven days so there really is no excuse for having dry skin!

To help keep your skin hydrated following a spray tan, it's also a good idea to drink lots of water. Drinking lots of water will help to keep your skin plumped up, blemish-free and smooth, effectively enhancing the appearance of your fake tan.

Another great fake tan after-care tip is to invest in some gradual tan. In addition to helping you prolong a natural holiday tan, gradual tan can help to prolong the life of your professional fake tan. Gradual tan can help your fake tan to fade evenly and naturally so it can be a great investment if you're planning on fake tanning regularly.

Fake tan can be affected by chlorine so it's a good idea to avoid swimming following a fake tan. If you do go swimming within a week of having a fake tan there's a strong chance you'll end up looking streaky which is not a good look for anyone!

So remember to get the most out of your fake tan or spray tan you need to: moisturise, drink lots of water, avoid swimming and gently exfoliate. If you follow all of these after-care tips there's a good chance your fake tan will fade subtly and naturally.
